Sickling Fluid Preparation – Sodium metabisulphite (2% solution)
Sickling Fluid is used in the sickling test to detect the presence of HbS (Sickle Hemoglobin) in suspected Sickle Cell Disease.
It creates a low-oxygen (reducing) environment that causes red cells containing HbS to sickle under the microscope.
The common laboratory preparation uses Sodium metabisulphite (2% solution).
